The IPL is more than just a league, it is a festival that graces the world of cricket, South Asia in particular, by clashing giants of the cricketing world with each other. Ten teams, named after ten different states and cities of India, challenge each other for the shining gold trophy of the IPL. Over time, several teams have been crowned the champions, most recently the debutant Gujarat Titans, while many of the old teams like the RCB are yet to lay hands on the trophy. Another team that debuted in the IPL of 2022 was the Lucknow Super Giants. The team was led by Indian opener and vice-captain KL Rahul and mentored by famous ex-Indian opener Gautam Gambhir. The team impressed loads of people with their consistent performance. Yet, some of the players were unable to play up to the required standards, which gives rise to the possibility of them being removed from the LSG. Here are three such players who might lose a contract with the team in 2023 :
1) Shahbaz Nadeem –
Shahbaz Nadeem was indeed very impressive in the past seasons of the IPL, especially during his stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Nadeem, however, failed to leave a mark with the LSG, especially because he is no longer a frontline spinner. The young bowler was extremely expensive in most of his outings this season, with his economy touching almost 9 in most of his matches. He was unable to grab wickets at a decent rate, which led to his eventual dropping from the squad. He might be released by the LSG in 2023.
2) Andrew Tye –
One of the LSG’s most-priced buys, Andrew Tye was supposed to be a game-changing buy for the LSG. His purple cap stint in 2018 where he bagged 24 wickets has become a mere memory though, as Tye has totally failed to carry on the momentum, having played only 10 matches since, grabbing only 6 wickets and leaking runs at an economy rate that borders on 10. This has led to a lot of teams losing confidence in the player, with the LSG being the latest.
3) Manish Pandey –
Manish Pandey is a surprise addition to the list, especially since Pandey is a well-known striker. He is a very skilled batsman, that goes without saying, and yet his performances in the recent IPL seasons have been far from impressive. Pandey was disappointed with the bat once again this year, wearing the LSG t-shirt, when he barely scored runs at all, and when he did, he scored them at a very dismal strike rate, wasting more balls than the runs he scored. He seems to lack the intent required to score quickly in T20 cricket. He might be released by the LSG to accommodate hard-hitting batsmen.
