The 21st century brought with it a new era in the world of cricket. Domestic Leagues have now taken over the popularity that international matches can’t match. Almost every major test-playing nation in the world has a domestic league of their own which takes place every year. For India it is the IPL, for Pakistan it is the PSL, for the Carribbean islands it is the CPL, etc. Australia too has its own domestic T20 League known as the Big Bash League or the BBL. The Big Bash is managed by Cricket Australia and is more of an audition for the young Australian players to show the selectors of the National cricket team what they are capable of. Here’s a list of five such players from the BBL who could fetch big money if they took part in the 2023 auction :
1) Hayden Kerr –
Hayden Kerr, who plays for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL has an extremely high chance of getting it big in the IPL. The all-rounder had an average of 50 with the bat and picked up 24 wickets in 15 innings, making him one of the most successful all-rounders in a single season. With the format of T20 getting more and more dependent on all-rounders, it seems understandable that Hayden Kerr gets the big heads moving towards him.
2) Kurtis Patterson –
Kurtis Patterson is a top order batsman playing for the Perth Scorchers in the BBL. Having an average of 32.5, Patterson was able to leave a noticeable mark this year around. He helped his team get to the finals, and that would most certainly be taken into consideration when he applies for the auctions of 2023 at the IPL.
3) Josh Philippe –
Josh Philippe from the Sydney Sixers is also a worthy choice for a decent bid, especially since the top order batsman scored 487 runs in the BBL 2022, which included 5 half-centuries, at a healthy average of 37.46. A young and quick batsman, he is what most teams would need to balance their top order. Pairing him up with an experienced batsman would just do the trick for the teams.
4) Jonathan Wells –
Adelaide Strikers batsman Jonathan Wells went down well enough for the Adelaide team in 2022, having scored 478 runs in 14 innings, with an unbelievable average of 68.29. His stint included 4 half centuries and 7 not outs. He might be a great pick for the teams in the IPL.
5) Jason Sangha –
All-rounder Jason Sangha from the Sydney Thunders has etched his name into Australian domestic history by becoming the second-youngest player after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to make a debut in first class cricket. With a strike rate of 130.61 and an average of 48, Sangha finished as the highest run-scorer for his team Thunders in BBL 2022. His young age and consistency might make teams like MI, CSK, etc. coming after him.
