One Popular Overseas Player, Each Team, will Release before IPL Auction 2021

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League had to be stopped midway due to havoc wrecked by Covid-19. The 15th edition of IPL will see a mega auction that will force many sides to release a few famous players from their roster. These players may have performed significantly well for the team, but they do not command a place in the side anymore due to the restrictions of retaining only three players. One famous overseas player every side might release will be:

Kolkata Knight Riders (Sunil Narine):

Sunil Narine is one of the most famous figures on the Kolkata side. However, his performance has declined over the course of the past few years and he does not command the same control with either ball or bat which made him such a dreaded opponent for the other teams. The restrictions of retaining only three players in the mega IPL auction might force Kolkata Knight Riders to release their star player. He managed to take 130 wickets scored 902 runs in nine seasons for KKR.

Mumbai Indians (Kieron Pollard):

Mumbai Indians will face the most challenging proposition when choosing to retain three players this season. The side is full of match-winners and might wanna retain Rohit Sharma, Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya. The side also has Suryakumar Yadav and Trent Boult as two other options that they might choose to retain. The choice will prove very difficult for Mumbai Indians who might be forced to release their star Caribbean, Kieron Pollard. Pollard has played several essential innings for Mumbai Indians and was the backbone in their golden period. He managed to score 3193 runs along with grabbing 62 wickets in 11 seasons with Mumbai Indians.

Chennai Super Kings (Faf Du Plessis):

The Proteas star has been a loyal servant for Chennai Super Kings and has won many games for the team. He has responded to all the needs of the management and has batted at all the positions with complete dedication. However, the player will be 38 years old by the time the next IPL starts. If retained, he will be 41 years old by the next mega auction, which goes against all his credentials. Even though he is one of the highest scorers for the Chennai side, Faf Du Plessis will be released by the team in all likeliness.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (David Warner):

Sunrisers Hyderabad shocked everyone when they removed Warner from the captaincy to hand over the reins to Kane Williamson. To make matters worse, David Warner was even dropped from the side in place of Mohammad Nabi. The team gave a clear indication that they do not see a place for Warner anymore in the side and would instead retain Bairstow and Williamson as overseas players.

Rajasthan Royals (Ben Stokes):

Similar to most sides, Rajasthan Royals will also face a problem of plenty. The side has several overseas options, such as Jos Butler, Jofra Archer, and Chris Morris. Sanju Samson should also be retained, whereas retaining uncapped Indians such as Chetan Sakariya, Riyan Parag, or Yashasvi Jaiswal will give them relaxation in their auction purse. Hence, the side might be forced to release Ben Stokes from the squad.

Delhi Capitals (Steve Smith):

Delhi Capitals bought Steve Smith in the 2020 auction for two crores after the Rajasthan Royals released him. However, the former Australian skipper has failed to impress with his performances this year and has often failed with the bat. The Delhi-based franchise will indeed release him.

Punjab Kings (Chris Gayle):

Chris Gayle is a significant part of IPL’s legacy. However, age has finally caught up on him, and the explosive opener will touch 42 years of age before the next auction of IPL. His increasing age with a declining ability to clear the boundary might force Punjab Kings to release the Caribbean star.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (Kylie Jamieson):

Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Kylie Jamieson for a record-breaking 15 crores. The Kiwi did not disappoint either and led the bowling of the side with efficiency. However, similar to Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers are also in a tricky spot where they will undoubtedly retain Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. Their third retained player will most certainly be an Indian star such as Washington Sunder, Devdutt Paddikal, or Mohd Siraj. The restriction of retaining just three players will most certainly see the Bangalore side release Jamieson from their squad.
